Brew Your Own Wedding Beer
Congratulations to Amy and Simon, who are getting married this weekend! Their best woman Carrie bought them a Craft Beer Kitchen experience as a wedding gift, so we caught up with Amy to hear why Craft Beer Kitchen fitted in so well with their plans. Copyright Simon Milligan
Amy and Simon’s story
Simon and Amy both work for a local charity and in their spare time they love exploring Edinburgh’s hidden gems, much of which is photographed by Simon and documented on his Instagram account. It didn’t take the couple long to get engaged: after just eight weeks, Simon proposed at the bottom of Blackford Hill, Amy’s favourite part of the city. “He was too nervous to wait ‘til the top!”
Amy and Simon’s beer
Amy and Simon made a wheat beer flavoured with hibiscus and sumac, which will add gentle floral notes and a lemony zing. But most importantly, it’ll turn the beer pink, so it matches the wedding flowers. The beer will feature in the evening reception and a few bottles will be kept aside as a permanent keepsake. “You can't put a price on that.”

From sampling different beer styles to learning how beer is made, Amy and Simon also found that brewing their own beer was a chance to have some fun in the middle of the stress of planning a wedding. Their Craft Beer Kitchen experience was incorporated into Simon’s stag do, kicking off events on Friday afternoon. It was a fun way to start the party as a couple before he went off into the woods with his friends. “I’m sure that’s how every man wants to start his stag weekend - with his fiancée!”

Amy and Simon’s wedding
True to their nature, Amy and Simon’s wedding theme emphasises sharing and they’re also keeping everything personal, homemade and handmade. With a little help from their friends, Amy and Simon are making lots of the decorations themselves, from centrepieces and candle holders to their marquee and a photo booth! Brewing their own beer fitted the theme perfectly and of course, “now the bottle labels will match the rest of the decor.”

In their own words...
“Our Craft Beer Kitchen experience was much more than what we imagined. We had free rein to make whatever we wanted and our creativity was encouraged by Jonny, our guide and brewer. He made us feel like one of the team rather than a guest.”
We hope you have a wonderful wedding day and best wishes for a happy future together.
